Baka!

Aloha from Hawaii! My parents and I are spending a week on Oahu on our way to Taiwan. I love playing in the sand and water at the beach, but going places means a lot of driving, which I don't like very much. So whenever I think we have arrived somewhere and are going to get out of the car, I happily shout "Baka!" I made this word up all by myself. It might have been inspired by the Chinese for "We've arrived", which is "Dào le", but it really doesn't sound that similar. Sometimes when we pull into a parking lot so I can go potty, I say "Baka!" in a happy voice, but then when I realize we still have to drive more, I get angry and start shouting "Baka!" to mean that I want us to be done driving now!

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

I have been getting better and better at feeding our cat Mercy. Now when Mercy wakes up or comes inside, I say "Mao food!" and go to get her tin of cat food out. My dad opens the tin, and I use the scoop to get some food, go over to Mercy's bowl, and put the food in the bowl. Then I go back to the tin and do it again! The only problem is that I don't ever want to stop! It's like the Sorcerer's Apprentice who casts a spell on a broom to get it to fetch water for him, but can't figure out how to get it to stop! My dad has to put the food away in order to get me to stop, and then I get upset for a moment until I see something else that is interesting.

I haven't made many posts recently because my mom and my dad and I are moving to Taiwan in two days! We have been busy packing, and we'll be even busier moving! I'll be able to write more regularly when we are settled in Taiwan. I'm looking forward to eating more of my favorite foods, rice and noodles!

Horchata! Wee! Keys!

We went out for Mexican food last night. My dad ordered an horchata, but I liked it so much that I drank it all myself! I love Mexican food, because it has rice, beans, and horchata!

I now call a cell phone a "wee" because in Chinese when you answer the phone you say "Wei?" Whenever I see a cell phone, I say "wee!" and want to play with it. I called my mom's friend Jackie once, and today I changed the ringtone of my mom's phone.

I also really love keys now. Not just any keys, but car keys, because they're bigger and have plastic ends. I also know where they're kept -- sometimes I go up to my dad and point to his pocket and say "geys!" When I have a key, I try to unlock things with it – doors mostly, but also car bumpers and even the water jets in our bathtub!

All in a Day's Work

I did many especially cute things today. First, while my dad was working, I was playing with the cat in the next room. I came into my dad's office, picked up a wrench, and left with the wrench to play with the cat some more. Then at dinner time, I took all the food out of my bowl and said "All gone!" Then I put a piece of food in my bowl, ate it, and said "All gone!" again. Then I did that a few more times. Finally, at bed time, my dad always sits with me while I go to sleep. He puts his head down on the rails of my crib and closes his eyes to help me go to sleep. So today, when I was about to go to sleep, I sat up and tapped him on the head, and when he looked up, I gave him my baby doll to help him sleep. Then I did the same thing with my teddy bear.

Night Night!

I am starting to sleep more! For three nights in a row, I have slept for 12 hours! My parents are overjoyed! (They are also knocking on wood!) I am also happier about going to bed at night. When I get really tired, I lie down on the floor and say "nai nai", and put my face in my blanket. Then I am happy to get ready to go to bed. Tonight, my dad was trying to read my bedtime book to me, but I slid out of his lap and lay down on the floor again! So my dad put me in my bed, and after we finished reading my book, it was time to go to sleep. I did sign "potty" once even though I didn't have to go, just to be able to stay up for a couple more minutes, but then I went to sleep.

Doodles!

I have always liked noodles but I now know how to say "doodles!" I can also say "rice!" And best of all, I now like making up songs about the different words I know. My noodle song goes "Doodle doodle doodle, doodle doodle doodle", and my book song goes "book a-book a-book, book a-book a-book." Can you guess how my night night ("nai nai") and water ("wawao") songs go?
