Scary Goats

Last night my dad was telling me about Halloween. He said we dress up on Halloween to scare away bad ghosts. I didn't know what ghosts are so I misunderstood and said, "Scare away bad goats?"

A New Dress!

My mom has been sewing a lot. She made a baby sling for my newest cousin, Jay, yesterday. Then today she made me a new dress. It is still a little big because it is for next summer but I had fun wearing it today.

Swimming

On Sunday I went to swimming class and was able to do all kinds of things by myself. After swimming we met up with my cousin, Baby Ryan and we checked out the Organic Living Expo at the World Trade Center. People at the booths gave me all kinds of free samples because I smiled at them. We then went to Ryan's house and played and had dinner. It was a really fun-filled but relaxing Sunday.

Halloween

On Saturday we went to a Halloween party. I was dressed up as a fairy princess while my dad dressed as Napoleon Dynamite. I didn't really understand trick or treating very well but I went along with all the other kids anyway. After getting some crackers and two lollipops, I decided it was enough and spent the rest of the time playing with a baby doll.

My dad's T-shirt says "Vote for Pedro" He had a curly haired wig and big glasses but it was too hot to wear them.

After the party we went to a free concert in Danshui put together by ICRT, the English radio station. It was Battle of the Bands and it was pretty cool! We had a picnic on the grass at the riverside park while listening to the music.

Another Haircut

I got my haircut last night at a sort of fast-food chain for hair cuts. You pay 100 NT ($3.30 U.S.) and take a number and the scissors and comb come flying in all directions. I was told to close my eyes then suddenly it was over. My haircut was done in about three minutes but it looked great! The best part was I didn't have to sit still for very long.

First Dentist Appointment!

On Tuesday, we all went to the dentist for the first time in Taiwan. We chose this dentist because he got his degree from University of Washington, where my parents got their degree and because the name of the clinic is called Seattle Dental Clinic. Plus it was clean and the dentist seemed nice when we went to check the place out last week. So, we all went and got our teeth cleaned and had x-rays done. I was scared at first but the dentist was very gentle so I wasn't so scared anymore. Now I like to show my teeth to everyone and say, "My teef keeen!"

I have been quite busy this past week. On Sunday, I went to a swimming class and got to swim with my dad, the teacher, and other new friends. Then we went to my mom's cousin's house and we hung out with all of my second cousins as well as my cousin, Baby Ryan. We then went out to dinner and I ate a lot!

Sunday, October 12, 2008

On Sunday we all decided to stay in since we still had a cough that started in Australia. We went swimming in our pool and then played with our friends, Jaylene and Jayden and then had dinner at a hot pot restaurant.

A Little Bit More History

Today my parents took me to a historical site called the Lin Family Gardens and Estate. This was once the family home of the richest family in Taiwan, back in 1850. There were ornate pagodas, and arches, and ponds throughout the estate. It was fun to run around in and play hide and seek. It was a nice glimpse into how a wealthy family with seven wives might have lived in the 1800's.

Happy Birthday, Taiwan!

On Friday, October 10th, Taiwan celebrated its birthday. The Republic of China was created in 1911, toppling the last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty. Everyone got a day off so we celebrated by first going to Jaylene and Jayden's house to play and make dumplings.

We then went to my Great Uncle's house and he took us out to dinner. It was great to get so much attention from everyone and also to play with my new cousin, baby Ryan.

G'day!

I just spent two weeks in Australia with my parents and it was a really cool trip. We spent a week in Brisbane sight-seeing. Then we rented a car and drove up the coast toward the Great Barrier Reef. We ended up in Roslyn Bay where we took a boat to Great Keppel Island and then got in a glass bottom boat to look at all the fish and coral under us. We saw a lot of jellyfish as well. Then we drove inland to Cania Gorge National Park and did a hike to a bat cave. The next day we drove south to Bunya Mountains National Park and hiked in a rain forest. In between we saw lots of animals like kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, and countless birds. We all had a great time.
